This site is a simpler starting point: describe your seawall and your timeline once, and independent marine contractors who work in Cape Coral and Lee County can contact you with quotes.
What we do (and what we do not)
Cape Coral Seawall Contractors is an independent referral service. We are not a contractor. We do not build, repair, or inspect seawalls, we do not hold a contractor license, and we do not do the work. We connect homeowners with local marine contractors and publish plain-English guides so you go into those conversations informed.
- Free for you. You never pay us. Contractors may pay for introductions to people who asked for quotes.
- No obligation. You decide whether to talk to anyone and whom to hire.
- Contractors are independent. Each one is responsible for its own quote, licensing, insurance, permits, contract, and workmanship. We do not guarantee any contractor's work, so please verify everything yourself. Our guide to choosing a seawall contractor shows how.

How it works
- Describe your seawall. Use the form on this page: canal or Gulf access, roughly how many linear feet, what you see (cracks, leaning, sinkholes), whether a dock is involved, and your timeline. Rough answers are fine.
- We share it with relevant contractors. With your consent, your request goes to local providers that fit what you described, not to a long list of unrelated companies.
- You compare. A contractor may reach out, and most will want to see the wall in person before giving a real price. Ask for written quotes that spell out what is included, then compare them side by side.
Why seawalls matter so much in Cape Coral
Cape Coral is built around a very large network of man-made canals, so a large share of homes sit on a seawall. The wall holds the yard in place, protects the foundation and landscaping from erosion, and is the structure your dock or boat lift attaches to. When a wall fails, soil washes out through gaps and the yard behind it can sink, crack, or slump toward the water. Because the canal system was dug out over many decades, plenty of walls are old, and storm surge and flooding put them under added stress. Seawalls are usually the homeowner's responsibility, so a failing wall is a cost the owner has to plan for.
Signs your seawall may be failing
You do not need to be an engineer to notice trouble. Warning signs include:
- Sinkholes or depressions behind the wall. Soil is escaping through gaps or cracks, often during tides or heavy rain. This is one of the most common early signs.
- Cracks in the cap. Hairline cracks are common and often cosmetic. Wide, growing, or offset cracks deserve a closer look.
- Leaning or bowing. If the wall top has moved toward the water, or the face looks bowed, the wall or its anchoring may be failing.
- Gaps between panels. Open joints let fill escape. Look at low tide, when more of the wall is exposed.
- Exposed or rusting rebar, flaking concrete. The steel inside a concrete wall is corroding and expanding, which breaks the concrete apart over time.
- Sinking pavers, patio slabs, or pool deck edges near the wall, or water pooling near it.
- A cap that is separating from the panels or shifting out of line.
Any of these is a reason to get the wall looked at. It does not automatically mean replacement; see the next section.
Repair or replacement?
Many walls with limited damage can be repaired: patching a cap, sealing cracks and joints, filling voids behind the wall, or replacing a few tiebacks. Repairs make sense when the structure is still sound and the problem is local. Replacement usually comes up when the wall is leaning, widely cracked, corroded, or has failed more than once. The honest answer depends on an in-person inspection, and sometimes an engineer's opinion. Our repair versus replacement guide explains how contractors decide and what to ask for in writing.
What seawall work costs
Costs vary a lot by wall height, access, material, and what is behind the wall. As a general planning idea, replacing a wall is a five-figure project for most homes. We publish rounded planning ranges, clearly labelled as estimates, in our seawall replacement cost guide, including an example table for 60, 80, and 100 linear feet. Treat those numbers as a way to sanity-check quotes, not as a price.
Permits, licensing, and doing it right
Seawall work generally needs permits, and in Florida a contractor must hold the proper license for the work they do. Both are things you can check yourself. Our permits overview explains the general picture (and tells you to confirm with the city), and our contractor checklist covers license lookups, insurance, red flags, and payment schedules.

Frequently asked questions
Are you a seawall contractor?
No. Cape Coral Seawall Contractors is an independent referral service. We pass your project details to local marine contractors who may be a fit. They inspect the wall, give you the quote, and do the work.
Does it cost anything to request quotes?
No. The service is free for homeowners. Contractors may pay us for introductions, which is how the site is funded. You are never obligated to hire anyone.
How do I know if my seawall needs repair or full replacement?
A contractor or marine engineer has to look at it. Small cap cracks and a few loose joints can often be repaired, while a leaning wall, widespread cracking, or repeated sinkholes behind the wall often point toward replacement. See our repair versus replacement guide for the signs and the questions to ask.
Do I need a permit for seawall work?
Usually yes, for anything beyond minor cosmetic repair, and some work can also involve state or federal review. Rules vary by location and project, so confirm with the City of Cape Coral or Lee County before work starts. A reputable contractor will normally handle the permit application. See our permits overview.
Is a seawall covered by homeowners insurance?
Often not, or only in limited ways. Many homeowners policies exclude or restrict seawall coverage. Read your policy and ask your agent before you assume anything, and tell the contractor if a claim is involved.
How many contractors will contact me?
It depends on your project and location. We aim to share your request only with contractors relevant to your job and area, not with everyone. You can tell each contractor how you prefer to be contacted.
